7 Principles for Reading Christian Books

by Wayne Boyer

1. The book should drive you towards the Bible, giving you a thirst to dig deeper into Scriptures.

2. The book should drive you towards spiritual thinking and away from worldly thinking.

3. Remember, the author is a sinful man and you cannot treat the book as inspired; don’t be afraid to disagree with the author. Back up your disagreement with Scripture to exercise your faith.

4. Let trustworthy authors or men of God recommend other authors to read.

5. If the book makes no mention of words like sin or hell; or if the author makes no mention of the name of Christ, use caution.

6. Remember a certain level of Christian maturity is absolutely necessary when reading books containing anti-Christian philosophy and heresy; read with a goal towards refuting the teaching and defending the gospel.

7. If time only permits picking up one book, make it the Bible over a Christian book.
