Welcome Kenny Long and Family

1023666_138151459204017Kenny and his wife Ashley, along with their children Arabella (2), Avery (1) and Asher (4 months); moved to Providence about a month ago from Oklahoma City, with the strategic goal of building relationships with college students and discipling them with the Gospel. They are in the process of getting settled, getting to know the church, finding an apartment and raising funds.

God’s timing was perfect when He called the Longs to Providence, RI. As Kenny and Ashley discussed one night what God was doing in their hearts separately, they realized one thing: God was calling them to pursue full-time vocational ministry in a new place. Soon after this discussion, Kevin called and told Kenny of an opportunity to evangelize and disciple college students.

As someone who has always desired to preach Christ where He is not preached, Kenny never thought that opportunity would come here in the U.S. As he listened to Kevin describe the spiritual climate of the New England region, especially Rhode Island, a burden grew in his heart. Only 1.6% of the people have had exposure to the Gospel in Providence, and Barna Research Group calls it one of the least bible minded city in the entire country.

Kenny is excited to meet and engage lost students with the Gospel, to see them grow in their vision for fulfilling the Great Commission globally, and to see what God will do through the faithful proclamation of His word.  If God loves the nations, then we should love the nations. And there’s no greater love than to lay your life down for a person, and Kenny sees that as giving your life to seeing Christ formed in a person’s heart. And finally, he is excited for his family and himself to be a part of a Gospel centered, Great Commission fulfilling church. He believes this is the best way that he can love and lead his family as head and what an overwhelmingly joyous feeling it is.

Keep the Longs in your prayers as they have moved far away from the city that we’ve always called home, look for an apartment and continue to raise support in faithful obedience, to His Glory.
