Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a church?
A church is a community of love and encouragement, centered in Jesus Christ. We are created and designed for community, not isolation. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God calls us to meet together to encourage and worship [Hebrews 10:25]. The church is the gathering together of His people to worship Him and encourage one another. If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, a church will ideally show you what God wants for us in life and relationships. Further, a church is a great place to grow spiritually in relationship to the Living God.
Why does Grace Harbor meet in a Hotel Conference Room?
Grace Harbor is a new church, a new community in the capitol city that is focusing on community and not facility. We meet for worship on Sunday mornings in a hotel room, and in homes throughout the week. Our desire as a church is to focus our time, energy, and the resources God gives us on spreading joy in Him, rather than maintaining a facility. We believe that if a building lends support to the vision and purpose God has given us then in the future as we listen to God He will lead us to that facility with purpose.
Do I need to be baptized? And what is baptism?
Baptism is an ancient religious ritual that was given meaning by Jesus Christ. He was baptized, immersed, in the Jordan River by John the Baptist, a prophet [Matthew 3:13-17]. Jesus commanded His followers to baptize those who came to know Him and follow Him [Matthew 28:19]. In Baptism, the Christian believer identifies themselves with Jesus Christ and His church, His community on earth. In baptism we show that we live transformed lives: we died to our old way of living wrong (sin), and live to a new way of relationship with Christ. Though we are not saved by baptism, it is a call of Christ to all who would follow Him to be baptized.
What does Grace Harbor value?
The central value of Grace Harbor is Scripture. We believe in the inspiration and infallibility of Scripture (you can learn more at the Baptist Faith and Message link). We believe that the Bible is true inside and out: inside the covers, and outside in our lives. We believe in the principles of the reformation that Scripture speaks the way of salvation and alone is the word of God. Grace Harbor treasures Jesus Christ as revealed in Scripture.
Grace Harbor holds community and authenticity as core values. We are created for community, and Grace Harbor purposes to be a Christian Community and radiating light in culture. We value authenticity as we seek out the living God in His word. Each Sunday at Grace Harbor we pray for an authentic and transforming encounter with God.
Grace Harbor values individuals. We are each unique individuals with experiences, desires, and goals loved by God. Our past reveals us, and our future persuades us as God defines us. We value individuals because God loves people. You can learn more about our view of embracing individuals in the church covenant.
How can I get involved?
The best way to be involved in Grace Harbor is to join the experience on a Sunday morning. Reading the church covenant will give you a better idea of who we are and what we believe. You have unique talents and abilities that God has placed in you that will become part of Grace Harbor as you become involved in the life of the church.
